suspect device #2 signing at desert island 4/6
jesus christ, i love doing signings. this was the most fun i’ve had in a long time. i sent the james joyce comic files to the printer at 3:15 am that morning so that sweetened the deal of getting to go on mini-vacation in NY.
in the book, i’m manwiched between SD editor/great cartoonist josh bayer (the guy next to me built like a tank) and domatille collardey, who kills it. thanks to josh for putting all this on and to sasha pearl for a banjo show standing up on the desert island counter, and to everyone for coming out.

Oh sure, Black Lightning and Apache Chief always at the back of the line…
Not very super of you, Superfriends.
They Run Deep
anders nilsen and moderator bill kartalapoulos talking at SPX ‘11. craig
thompson’s eye in the corner there (that drawing wasn’t as good.)i found anders tough to draw because of his skater-y demeanor. his
eyes are usually half-lidded, and the tone of his voice verges on
monotone, but he’s engaged— just super chill. but to draw someone
whose eyes are half-lidded, and they’re present, not bored, sleepy, or
stoned— interesting challenge.my faves here are bill and the anders on the right. i like the disney
eyes on the left, though i see that more as my drawing tic than a
characterization of anders.also, anders has a bird neck and bird-like hands and wrists. no
coincidences. though anders’s birds look stumpy and not much like him.when i saw jason at mocca, i immediately could tell it was him because
he looks just like one of his characters. and seeing pictures of lewis
trondheim, he looks just like his cartoon eagle version of himself.
Let it be known. Fun is had at SPX. Glad to welcome Sir Mitchell to his first.
SPX was too much fun! Literally too much fun, my body is still recovering from all the fun.
