I basically have a temporary nerd crush on Matt Gargan which cannot articulate decently.

Here’s a detail of a spit-shine I did on this image, which has been seen on my main site for awhile now. I edited it for a new illustration promo postcard. The postcard shows this image as side A and the whole, small on the B side.
In the full version, you see a dedication to Charles Burns— that’s because in my first drafts I completely subconsciously ripped off this amazing drawing. The pose and idea in this final version of course retain a lot of similarities.

“Just draw…” Good advice!
Graphite Flexing:
I haven’t been the best at keeping up with my drawing ability for years now. So my skills from my youth have slipped away from me. Which sucks, because I have written and have so many ideas for comics that have been running in my head for years now. I let the complications of life, and my lack of confidence mixed with perfectionism robbed me of my will to make comics.
So, I’ve told myself after going to SPX for the first time this year: “Just draw.” I saw and met so many great creators and gazed upon the works born from their imaginations. I thought it was incredible. And I realized that it shouldn’t be this hard to share my imagination with people.
And with that said I will have a feature on my tumblr called: “Graphite Flexing”. Which is a bunch of doodles and sketches, that I make to get me back into the habit. I want start drawing all the time again, and regain lost skills and techniques. You know, like the basics and fundamentals. It won’t be the best work starting out, but at least I’m doing it, dammit! So from here on out, I will not let anything stop me this time.
The first pic is just a plethora of strange things my head concocted I really don’t know where it all came from, but I had fun with it.
The sketch to the left in the second pic, is actually a character from a comic series that I created a few years ago. Tegegne is her name, and she is one of the antagonists in the story. She’s actually one of my favorite characters that I came up with. This girl is just full of swagger! She’s hip, fashionable, clever, and manipulative. She’ll get what she wants from people and try to keep things the way she likes them. But the thing about her is that she actually has good intentions. It’s just misguided by her selfishness and the fact that she cares way too much for anyone. She really believes what she is doing is for the best.
This is actually my second sketch I made of her. The first one was horrendous and I backed away from the project with my dented self-esteem. No more of that now! I like this initial design of her and am going to use this as the base for now on.
