Here’s a lengthy love letter to SPX 2012 from Tom Spurgeon that, among other things, really highlights Kevin Panetta’s hard-ass work on the exhibitor floor configuration.
He and Warren sweated (and re-sweated) that room layout. Ultimately Kevin nailed things down and performed the extremely difficult job of populating the table grid with cartoonists.
Even though I know Kevin was still sweating it all the way through Saturday morning, not only did he avoid, in his words, “fucking everything up” he totally goddamn nailed it.
It is hard to even remember a year ago being reticent about expanding the hall or even six months ago committing to that second round of added tables but we bet on our ability to fill the room with attendees and, I think, fully succeeded.
Despite how well everything turned out (and thank you to every single person who said a nice thing about SPX 2012) nothing about these choices was obvious so it is really great to see the faith we put in ourselves - and in this show - validated so thoroughly.
Or course, if all the folks exhibiting at SPX weren’t producing such amazing books, prints, minis and tabloids we wouldn’t be anywhere at all…
